Managing a Simple One Man Act Using a Teleprompter
I recently used a teleprompter for my school act. Our acting school was conducting a competition for a one man act and every class needed to volunteer at least five candidates for participation. I always wanted to participate and we send out the names for the final selection. The selection process included every participating candidate to prepare a one act play with an original script and then perform that in front of the jury. The final five candidates thus selected by the jury will be able o perform that in front of the entire school and the community in the local community hall. Of course the winner gets to win a lot of goodies.
I prepared a script based on a true story of a man who survived being adrift in theAtlantic Oceanfor 76 days and still managed to survive the ordeal out of sheer girt and desire to live. Although without props this one man act was too much to pull off, I decided that I will do as much as I can put in this without going overboard with it. Of course acting wise it had too much in scope and the hallucinating Steve Callahan would be a nice way to showcase my acting skills.
To prepare myself I used the PromptDog teleprompter which is nice and easy to manage and just requires a laptop to be able to function. Although I did not use any props in the actual show, I managed to get the permission to use the teleprompter instead of a person who can remind me of my lines. The overall result was more than I expected. Although I did not manage to win the final event, but just being able to get into the final five with my one man act was a wonderful achievement for me.
